Why can't everything just work?

Or is this why they pay us?
(17 Nov 2011, 16:53 )Like Ra Wrote: [ -> ]Took me 8 months to convince them.

Now i wonder how long it will take them to fix the problem. Got this response after I noted an hour long outage between 12:06 and 13:06 GMT:

Quote:We are still monitoring, and considering our options regarding this.

Total downtime (DNS + overload) was something about 5 hours.

Crap...
6 hour downtime. Great.

First usual disk overload.
Then unusual disk overload.
Then APC MMAP corruption
The disk overload after reboot (suddenly all log processing systems woke up).
Then APC MMAP corruption
Then two more resets
And finally it's up.

I wonder for how long....
Linode looks good. Most likely I will migrate to their Xen VPS during the next month. I'm fed up with Arvixe.
This is what I've learnt about Linode so far:

+ very fast
+ Xen based
+ great console
+ quite flexible
+ cheaper than Arvixe
+ adult content allowed

--- they do not accept Paypal
- monthly traffic is limited

Explanation from Arvixe - they run backups on Saturday during the US night. Every VPS is brought down for some time, then backed up. That would explain it.
Also, the Arvixe admins began to randomize two heavy cron jobs - updates and backups.
It looks for me, as if they are beginners in their job.
At my job such Admin likely woud have been fired aeady.
Not directly but related - about Fasthost VPS

Virtual server farm goes titsup TWICE in a month
Punters blast Fasthosts

Quote:Nearly 3 days downtime on my virtual server in last month, will take over 50 years of service to hit your 99.99% uptime GUARANTEE.

The thing is, the 1hour outages my VPS experience is not covered by the SLA, because the VPS is up and running. Just do not use the disk too often 😉
