The argument is that because the character crossdresses in the costume in the game you wearing a copy of it means you're not crossplaying. You're cosplaying a man in a harem costume, not a woman and so it's not crossplay 🤔
But surely that argument only holds water if the original character was, indeed, a man in a harem costume? (I.e. the scene with Charles Hawtrey in Carry on up the Khyber... if memory serves)

The original character was exactly that. People are being told to calm down 😊

Well done - have a gold star and house points 😁
Not, I suspect, a movie that could be made now - at least not in the way it was. I watched it again a few months ago, wincing at a few parts, but thought it less offensive than much that is considered acceptable in the mainstream today.
Now, would a woman playing Mrs Doubtfire be acceptable as Cosplay or is there an underlying trend that it's only wrong if the player is a man?
...and what if the character was a declared 'non-binary'?
Hmm, maybe we shouldn't go down that particular road.....

We even have a thread for this 😁
I'm not in cosplay, but that is really confusing.

If you're cosplaying a man who's cross-dressed as a woman you're cosplaying the man, not the woman he's cross-dressed as and as such you're not crossplaying...I think that's how it works. 😊
But you could always claim you're cross-playing the woman the man was dressed as (if she's in the original game) in which case you would be crossplaying...lol
