Design changes

Those who DO NOT use Internet Explorer may have noticed some design changes. Could you please let me know what you think?

Unfortunately the buggy piece of crap called Internet Explorer is utterly broken by design does not follow standards and should be banned NOT be used (for your own safety). IE8 is better than IE6/7, but still only 20% on the Acid3 test.

Winter, weather, body, ads and where is Like Ra?

Beginning with the last question – still here 😉 But very busy.

– with the job (which is about to change somehow in the next few months).

– with home servers, computers, networks, electronics, navigation systems, etc. (upgrades, updates, patchings, backups …. The server OS must be finally reconfigured and upgraded. The bugs, slowness, disks running out of space and memory leaks make me nuts).

Bugs in Firefox 3.6 and web-design

Update: Fixed for Firefox 3.6. Actually, it was not an FF bug, but following the standard. The background of the boxes will be broken in Internet Explorer which is buggy. Chrome renders OK.

Firefox 3.6 is out but the bug related to element positioning is still there. So if you are going to upgrade you will see that the design is broken.

Looks like it’s the time to rewrite the internals again… Oh my …

Recovering the site

$#$%^&  happens…

Probably more often than we would like it (“like” is not a good word here) to happen.

Update 19 Jul, 2009 @ 19:48

It’s nice to find the site suspended when you’ve just come back from a busy vacation… Instead of taking simple troubleshooting steps, the providers decided (again) to simply suspend the account. Next time I will have to find another provider (again). The reason is: overusing the system resources. The actual reason is unknown. Denial of service? Possibly. Can be easily detected by the provider. They even have a specific paragraph in their services list.

OK, anyway, the site has almost disappeared from Google (again) and lost “reputation points”. I’ve become a “phobia” person. I’m afraid of losing stuff. Losing time, energy, money, information, privacy, health, etc… I make backups at least twice a day, I check processes every 5 minutes. Unfortunately you can’t backup/clone everything. But unfortunately you can backup/clone problems.

Jeez.. I love that… Not …

Redesigning the website

Update 2009-03-23 @ 12:35:25:

  • Moved some functions to JavaScript. That reduced the page sizes, decreased the page load times (since the menus are cached by the browser) ,  and increased the percentage of the content/metadata ratio.
  • The menus  can still be accessed by JavaScript disabled clients
  • Added contact info
  • Added navigation links (on the right) to the recent comments, most viewed articles, etc
  • Added a Map counter (at the very bottom). It’s a fun to see where you all are coming from 😉
