I'm trying to get things working but I'm not sure I have the setup quite right. I downloaded the newest version of Retroshare portable with tor for Windows and created a new standard node. I've posted my certificate and have added some others from this site. I see all of those certificates under "Network", but no nodes appear to be online. I also have an empty contact list, no files from other users available, and no forums. I know it is expected that I won't see anything here until other users have added my certificate (https://www.likera.com/forum/mybb/Thread...4#pid42484), so it could be that just nobody has done that yet.

In the bottom toolbar, I see "Trusted nodes: 0/31 | NAT (green) | DHT (green)".

For my network configuration, I am using a manually forwarded port which I have opened and directed correctly in my router configuration. "Local network" and "External ip address finder" are green. However, I don't have the hidden service aspect configured correctly. If I just start Retroshare, both "Tor outgoing ok" and "incoming ok" are black. If I manually run tor.exe in the same directory as Retroshare, "Tor outgoing ok" turns green, but incoming remains black (as just running tor.exe does not appear to create a hidden service). This is suboptimal as it keeps tor.exe open as a persistent console application, and also doesn't appear to be respecting the portable installation, instead setting up configuration in C😕Users\(me)\AppData\Roaming\tor\. I know I could install tor as a windows service that is always running, but I'd rather not do that, and instead only have tor running when Retroshare is open. Searching for info about how to get the hidden service up and running suggests that I need to install and configure a webserver which I definitely did not need to do in the past.

When I previously used Retroshare a year or so ago, I remember the portable version would automatically start tor and create a hidden service for me (which also kept all of its configuration in the portable installation) before opening the Retroshare application, and I don't remember needing to do any of this additional configuration, but I can't find how to get that working. Can anyone advise? Thanks in advance.

Just keep adding friends and stay online.

As for the RS/Tor for Windows - can't comment here, as I use Linux.

And again! If RS is "not working" for you - you need more online friends! Keep adding all certs from the cert thread. Keep adding certs posted in the RS forums.
Hello All,

Been on Retroshare now for six months and, I thought, sharing - but it seems people can’t see my shared directories.

I have about 30 folders under ‘My Directories’ in the ‘My Files’ tab of File Transfers, and seem to have ticked all the right boxes - in the ‘Access’ column, the orange boxes have the magnifying glass to search anonymously,  the blue column has the Anon face to allow anonymous downloads (which works, see below) and the green column has the green folders showing, with visibility showing as either [All Friend nodes] or friends, family, Other Contacts, Friends Online etc all listed separately. DHT almost always show green. Network mode is 'Public: DHT & Discovery', NAT shows as 'Automatic - UPnP', and the 'UPnP' traffic lights are green.

But I’ve checked with a few people and I’m not showing up as having any shared files. Is there anything else I need to do? I may need to tick something else somewhere. Any advice gratefully recieved.

I can see traffic for my specific files going out in the uploads box, so they can be searched and downloaded anonymously, that seems to work. I’m using a VPN, not on Tor, and using Retroshare 0.6.0-RC2-5290. I'm on a Mac. I can download fine.

May not be easy to answer - if I can't resolve I will scrap the current installation and start again on Tor.

Thanks!
Is your RS ID also @friendlychicken ?

Ah no, it's "Bergamot47", just to confuse things. Thanks!
I can see your files just fine, so you are good 😊

Great news! Thanks for checking Like Ra. It may just be an occasional problem then. I will continue with the same setup.
Thanks for a friendly forum also 😊
