I have updated my Contact page with a bunch of social nets I’m on. As you may have noticed, I’m experimenting with integrating them (you see the buttons underneath the posts, don’t you?) into the blog.
I have a related question. Do you find this stuff useful? Have you ever clicked on any of the buttons to “share” the content? Do you think it would be worthwhile to invest more efforts in this area (e.g. comments integration with Facebook)?
Social networks are the bane of humanity.
Absolutely. With one exception – LiveJournal, where you can find really brilliant literature. The rest is “bubbles”. I use them for promoting the site and to grab interesting pictures.
I see only one area where sites like Twitter and Facebook are irreplaceable – real-time journalism. Immediate news from “tough places”.
Oh, yes, probably another one – LinkedIn for keeping professional contacts publicly.
I would not share anything of this lifestyle on any of those networks. Not good to share kink with the vanilla world.
You just need to create two profiles.
i stay away from social networks including clicking on links to post things to them, because i think i am still have my anonymousness. if i click your facebook icon right now it will post directly to the account that my friends and family and coworkers see because i leave it logged in. no reason not to i use my personal laptop for work and home i carry it everywhere.
granted if someone approached me and was like hey are you that person from that one site, since they enjoyed the site no reason to hide from them. but that is not going out of my way that is someone else going out of their way.
*shrug*

Ha-ha … 😉 (depends on what you understand under “anonymousness”, of course)

As I said: create two accounts (if you really need it, but I doubt that anybody actually needs a “social net” account, unless he/she wants to promote his/her works).

“No. Why?” – will be y answer.
Social networking is already inconvenient enough, I’d rather not juggle multiple personalities or trying to remember which one I left logged in last. but that is just spazzy me 😀

Yes, that can cause some confusion…. Unless you use Firefox with different profiles on different virtual screens. Like I do. Fetish related sites on the top right VS, work related on left bottom, general web-surfing – top left, etc. I use 4 Firefox profiles.
Actually, I do lots of different (and not related to each other) work 😉
New record: 233 hits from Facebook. Probably the integration is worthy. The funny thing is, you can’t use any Benelux phones to register a new Facebook application. Yes, a strange requirement, but you have two options: a credit card or a phone. Actually, only one, because I’m not giving them my credit card number. No way.
So, I will have to wait till I buy a prepaid SIM somewhere during a vacation.
