lots more of us than we think, says okcupid

OKcupid is a large, free dating site. It makes no attempt to be anything but vanilla.

They statistically analyze people's responses to questions on the site. They just published the year's stats,

including these very surprising stats -

58% of people on okcupid have a desire to participate in bondage.

this is a 5% increase from 2014

in response to the question "Would you rather be tied up during sex or do the tying?"
60% say 'be tied up'

Well too bad only in the United States it seems, they should have put info per country because in my country it's very difficult to find bondage equipment and related stuff. Good to see it's increasing

"1 in 4 people said they would date a transgender person.
5% increase vs. last year"

Correlation? Coincidence?
Statistics is a powerful thing. Most of the time it says, actually, nothing about the real situation, because the data were collected, grouped, processed, etc. wrongly. the In this particular case, several "scenarios" possible:

o- We do not know who uses OKCupid. In what groups/societies is it more popular? Check fetlife, for example, 100% are kinky 😁

o- 5% might be statistically irrelevant

o- Last year the site became more popular among specific groups. Targeted ad campaign?

o- More densely populated US states have more kinky people?

o- More people become more open about their desires

o- Kinky people cannot find partners, hence they use dating sites

o- People become bored, they want to try something new

o- OKCupid did not offer any other kinks, so that was the only choice.

o- It is indeed a global tendency

o- etc.
