Now that the reddipocalypse is most definitely over I hate to admit how painful obvious and feeble the protests were. Truth is that most people who enjoy reddit have nothing else to replace it, like me I might dislike reddit app since the loading just sucks but I ain't crawling back to no one view corporate news site. Neither do I like the other social media products, I liked reddit for it's genuine discussions on niche topics.
Sadly that meant protests were just so weak, most just went down for a day. Very few resisted for longer and those in any sort of power just got removed by reddit Inc exactly as predicted. This and the removal of reddit coins and awards are a stark reminder of how little bargaining power we have with these companies, despite being their customers and paying them money we have very little ability to stop them from taking actions we don't like if they don't have semi decent competition.

It's one way to extract money directly from users for a service while gaslighting them into thinking they shouldn't expect to be treated as paying customers instead of users of a free service, I.E.as a product.
I think with Reddit gearing up to go public on the stock market, we're going to see a Tumblr/Imgur-style prohibition on pornographic content in the near future. At this stage, I don't think it's a matter of 'if' - it's a matter of 'when', and I think it could be by the end of the year. I'd be delighted to be proven wrong, of course. If there's any content on Reddit that you value (saved posts, etc), I'd start backing things up just in case.
