In thinking about this, I think I have an idea on how this could work.
The 3 square rings could be connected to each other by a steel strap, covered with the rubber or leather that you can see.
Also, the leather or rubber straps that comes around to the front could loop through the front rings and could be closed by a set of Snaps.
Of course, this needs to be made-to-order.
