Coloured nylons is a different story, I wore them several times outside after the sunset. I think we're just very aware of these unwritten rules of public perception - and sheer nylon really is crossing a line into female attire, whereas shiny Lycra leggings sort of hover as unisex in public eyes, albeit slightly pervy. Of course there's also the less practical side of sheer - I am too lazy to shave and my hair is quite stiff so when it grows back to a short stubble it feels rough so that would snag up the sheer tights.
