I agree with you, there are many very good & helpful uses for AI (especially in the scientific community *if* the data being used as the basis for the input is checked and filtered and as you said the results are carefully verified and cross checked manually).
Unfortunately it can be used very irresponsibly as well, copy garbage in & paste garbage out, and this will probably be the most often used cheap/easy/quick usage, and spreading misinformation on a global scale, and be regurgitated by the bots which initially gathered it to be spit out.... self perpetuating like an ouroboros serpent:
Like a knife, in the hands of a seasoned chef like Paul Fotie Photenhauer (really sorry, could not resist that one since we are on this site) a very useful tool to make the world's finest dishes, in the hands of Mack the Knife, a tool of destruction & not so much.
@Zooy thank you for the kind words, but I'm no expert & I'm sure I can be duped as well. All you can do is try to your best to cross reference "facts" and "examples" & check for sources as best you can, this is true for human sources as well. To avoid making fatal mistakes & possible legal accountability issues, ChatGTP still often tries to formulate apparent stated "facts" as general possibilities "Most sources" etc. which can often give you a clue and be a red flag.

I am not denying the usefulness of these bots. They can plow their way through far more information than we can. But I think it is important to be able to see the difference between human generated information and AI generated info. They each have their weaknesses, but they are different weaknesses.
Quote:The inhibitory effects of methanol extracts of 19 edible and medicinal mushrooms on 5α-reductase activity were examined. The extract of Ganoderma lucidum Fr. Krast (Ganodermataceae) showed the strongest 5α-reductase inhibitory activity. The treatment of the fruit body of Ganoderma lucidum or the extract prepared from it significantly inhibited the testosterone-induced growth of the ventral prostate in castrated rats. These results showed that Ganoderma lucidum might be a useful ingredient for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).

Other agents covered include red reishi, which has been shown to reduce levels 5-alpha reductase, the enzyme that facilitates conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT); licorice, which has phytoestrogen effects and reduces testosterone levels; Chinese peony, which promotes the aromatization of testosterone into estrogen; green tea, which contains epigallocatechins and also inhibits 5-alpha reductase, thereby reducing the conversion of normal testosterone into the more potent DHT; black cohosh, which has been shown to kill both androgenresponsive and non-responsive human prostate cancer cells; chaste tree, which has a reduces prolactin from the anterior pituitary; and saw palmetto extract, which is used as an anti-androgen although it shown no difference in comparison to placebo in clinical trials.
Daily intake of Kaempferia parviflora extract not only decreases abdominal fat, but also a potent anti-androgenic, comparable with finasteride.
Quote:Compared with the placebo group, the active KPE group exhibited significant reduction in abdominal fat area (visceral, subcutaneous, and total fat) and triglyceride levels after 12 weeks. Subgroup analyses demonstrated a significant reduction in abdominal fat area and triglyceride levels in healthy subjects compared with the placebo group after 12 weeks. Neither group exhibited adverse events related to the test foods or clinically relevant abnormal changes in physical, biochemical, or hematologic parameters, or in urinalysis results and medical interview.
Quote:K. parviflora extract suppressed the weights of prostates and seminal vesicles in BPH model rats by daily administration for 14 days. These results indicate that K. parviflora extract can be a promising agent for the treatment of BPH.

Apparently, Butea superba boosts DHT... So... to be avoided...

Tracking info says "Delivered", but I received nothing. Again, again and again....
Lol funny, the last bottle of PM i ordered got delivered to a neighbor, along with a bottle of vitamins in a separate envelope. they opened the vitamins envelope before realizing these packages werent for them and set them out on their box. i admit i freaked out when i checked tracking details and saw the neighbor's door instead of mine, and then again when i found one envelope was aeady opened. Never happens with anything else!
BTW, I stop taking PM in January 2025. I'm curious if my weight will finally go down a bit. So far, I did not notice anything after 3 months. But Psyllium does help!
