The idea of metal planks sounds very uncomfortable, but perhaps I am wrong there. Anyway, how would you lock and unlock them with your hands stored in the armbinder? If you have a suitable idea, this might even work with the normal leather straps and modified buckles.
OK, I was wrong, you don't want to replace the straps, but lacing. But I still wonder, how you would operate any locking mechanism.
