How do you know if hypnosis works?

When I read the threads here, I often get the feeling that the hypnosis here consists mostly of self confirmation: People are aeady looking for a result and then enter a form of 'echo chamber' to reinforce those desires.
I wonder what would happen if we take somebody who would never wear heels, a skirt, pantyhose etc, and outside his knowledge somebody would play each night, during his sleep, feminisation hypnosis files. Would that work?
I do know that some psychotherapists use hypnosis to install triggers to calm people down, but I have no idea whether they can get people to really change their personality. And the claims with many WMM files to start growing breasts spontaneously, seem to me more than far fetched.

Still more like an echo chamber. Look at how internet groups can make people far more violent than they would have been otherwise. These groups tweak reality in my eyes. They really believe what they are telling each other. And many of them are 100% convinced they are doing the right thing.

I have some misgivings when I think back about that one. In addition, it refers to growing more breast on women, which is a more natural phenomenon with potentially other causes. And in all those tests the number of participants is so small that one will always obtain 'positive' results on a number of such investigations.
Statistics of small numbers is a dangerous game. And even with bigger numbers:
I remember an experimental physicist once telling me that they had a beautiful 5 sigma result looking like they found a new particle, but that the number of bins they had was so large that it turned out to be a statistical fluctuation.

Also true. Resonances, "positive feedback loops" (in this sense: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Positive_feedback), egregors, entrainment. Sure, what means, it's kinda proved:

This is exactly what "might" happen in such radical groups you mentioned above.

Whether hypnosis works is an interesting discussion. A lot depends on what you want to achieve from it, where you are in your journey, how suggestible you are to the narrative and the skill of the person delivering the hypnosis.

I've listened to a few of the files here, including a couple of the curses. I enjoyed them, and felt really relaxed but never felt really anything different. They seem no more than basic progressive relaxation with some suggestibility. One of them I gave up on as I was getting so fed up of the voice telling me I was "deeply hypnotised" when in fact I was bored and just wanted them to cut to the chase!!!

I was taught progressive relaxation and visualisation as part of an elite sports camp in the '90's. It was powerful and can still remember the things we are asked to visualise. Also can remember the triggers so I can do it today. Done well, it helps achieve something you are aeady capable of but requires the utmost focus. Is the same true of some of these files? Those listener has maybe aeady decided that they was to go out in public fully crossdressed, but the file under relaxation manages to reduce the anxiety to a level that they can manage?

Honestly since all of it is taking place in your mind, there's no real difference between a real effect and a placebo effect. If you have the correct sensations, it's working.

But I've had a number of experiences that have proven to me that there's more going on than me just playing along. The first and most obvious is HFOs. I can't do that on my own. And some files have had it happen without me even expecting it.

Secondly, when I get really deep, I sometimes get a very strong sensation that my body is spinning and I'm not totally sure which way is up. It's not a feeling I could recreate by pretending.

I've also done a number of experiments to see if I can keep my eyes open when I'm commanded to close them during a few files that have been very effective on me. To date, I haven't been able to keep my eyes open even one time if it's a file that's worked on me before. I'm sure if the house was on fire or something, things would be different, but without a reason to resist I've been totally helpless against these commands. I've made bets with myself and donated money when I lost, even. I want to try and make a bet with someone else about it at some point, but for obvious reasons I'm not going to ask any of my friends to observe so I'm not sure how I'm going to do it

Sometimes it's just about introducing the brain to the concept of "fake it until you make it".

For me, hypnosis absolutely works, but it can take some time training on a file and even subconsciously "playing along" for it to root any real effects in you. Over the years using various files I've had periods of time where the actual suggestions within a file were taking effect, and then as I stopped listening those effects went away, but some stubborn triggers remain.

I've listened to files that were supposed to drag me under while alert and actively doing something, and if it was a hypnotist I'd previously established a "relationship" with (not literal, but rather that I'd tranced to their stuff before) I've found that I do slip into trance without consciously consenting to it. I think this is less about the hypnosis and more that my brain is simply trained to do that; that said, that's basically the main idea of hypnosis anyway.
