Here's a clip from 1988 of Janet Street Porter (at the time I think she was Head of BBC Yoof Programming, later to be editor of 'The Independent', long-distance walker and all-round existentialist) in a rubber miniskirt and semi-sheer black tights.

Sadly it doesn't include the bit where Russell Harty (seated to her right) mentions her 'plastic' skirt and she says 'Nahhhh, it's rubber'. Extremely rude... that said, I doubt Vivienne's 1980s shoes (that are held to be so outrageous at the start of the clip) would raise an eyebrow worn on Saturday afternoon on the average provincial town's High Street these days. In fact, more than one colleague of mine wears similar shoes to the office...
