Cosplay - Fetish or Fun?

It looks like "Psylocke" from x-men it's very common amongst cosplayers

Was reading something the other day that means that 'cosplay' could become a criminal event.
A number of movie companies, comics and tv companies are looking to start protecting their intellectual property in the form of the image of their characters. In short cosplay could become a breach of copyright.
Will be interesting to see how it evolves

I think this is the case being referred to above.

The parties to the case, Star Athletica and Varsity Brands, both design cheerleading uniforms. Varsity claims that major portions of their designs are entitled to copyright protection, while Star Athletica points out (and is backed up by a long line of caselaw) that clothing designs are explicitly exempted from copyright.

The absurdity is palpable.

I would call it a very grey militarized zone around the centre of another dichotomy. There is no sharp, clear and distinct line between erotic and porn, art and kitsch, normal and abnormal, what can be copied and what's not and to what extent. That's why we have so many lawyers.

So, the copyright owners will supply their own branded latex suits for cosplayers?

One example I can think of; DC Comics licenced a latex version of the Michelle Pfeiffer 'Batman Returns' Catwoman costume to Anette K back in '93. Rumour had it she never sold one as it wasn't particularly accurate and cost DM 999 for the suit and corset alone. Apologies for the poor pics.
