This thread is dedicated (self-)bondage related designs based on Arduino controllers.

Arduino is an open-source electronics prototyping platform based on flexible, easy-to-use hardware and software. It's intended for artists, designers, hobbyists, and anyone interested in creating interactive objects or environments.

Arduino can sense the environment by receiving input from a variety of sensors and can affect its surroundings by controlling lights, motors, and other actuators. The microcontroller on the board is programmed using the Arduino programming language (based on Wiring) and the Arduino development environment (based on Processing). Arduino projects can be stand-alone or they can communicate with software on running on a computer (e.g. Flash, Processing, MaxMSP).

Great post Ra. I've created a thread to post programs that can tease you using the Fitness unpersonal Trainer. Some of the teasing options involve an Arduino:

It can activate switches for teasing devices connected to AC using a servomotor:

I've ordered an Arduino board two days ago (I'm a software developer, extending to hardware is my next step 😊 ).
I've also ordered a compatible bluetooth module, so I will be able to control the Arduino remotely via PC or mobile phone. I'd like to use the Arduino as a release mechanism for SB.

Currently I could think of the following ways to release a key from the device:
- electro magnet
- clock release
- switch on light to use a combination lock

Do you have any other ideas to use this as a SB release?

Since mostly I use knives instead of locks and always blindfolded I would say "electromagnet with a knife". Another option is to add a relay and use electro magnetic door lock - http://www.likera.com/blog/wp/archives/2785

Thanks to ideas and suggestions on this site, I ordered an inexpensive electromagnetic from amazon and two timers. The magnet is designed to be used with a door lock system, not on its own. After figuring out the requirements for powering the magnet, I got the right parts and hooked it all up. If anyone is interested, I will link to the parts and discuss specs. I think there is another thread for electromagnets somewhere around here where it might make more sense to discuss that.

Once I was confident I had all that working, I got an Arduino board and hooked it up to a relay circuit I built which can switch on and off the magnet. I wrote a simple program which, at the push of a button, turns on the relay and waits a random amount of time between a minimum and maximum before turning back off. For safety, the power going through the relay switch still goes through the wall timers which I set to a longer period. Additionally, the relay is of the N.O. type, meaning that when the relay switch isn't being powered, it is in the open position. That way if the Arduino loses power the magnet gets its power cut.

I haven't seen anyone else using a magnet the way I use it. My magnet came with mounting brackets and a metal plate which locks against the magnet when it is on. I mounted the active magnet side to a bed post (currently just by wrapping around it with a rope tightly) so that it can be plugged into its power source without any chance of being tugged. Then, I tie a rope around the metal plate which is screwed conveniently into a long thin piece of mounting hardware, perfect for tying a rope securely around. I have used this mechanism to tie myself up inescapably in bed in a few different ways. The easiest is to have a length of rope with one end tied to the metal plate and the other end tied to a bed post. The rope has enough slack so that the middle of it can reach up to the head of the bed where I can lock my hands to it. The keys to the locks are at the foot of the bed on the floor out of reach. Once the the time is up, the magnet powers down and the end of rope tied to the plate is freed, allowing me to pull my locked wrists away enough to reach the keys. If I am alone in my house, I am sure to keep a pair of scissors at the head of the bed within reach!

What I am interested in doing next is having the Arduino control a remote or wired vibrator in addition to the electromagnetic. I got a remote controlled one but I haven't had any luck getting the remote's case pried open without breaking it. I am sure it will be easy to control the on/off switch in the remote once I finally decide to break it into pieces in the name of bondage, err, science.

I have found that a vibrator is very fun even if it isn't being controlled by a devious circuit the way I would like. You can set things up so the vibrator is pressed close against yourself without any way to remove it and then tie yourself up, turn it on, throw the remote out of reach, and wait for the timer to end.

Hi.

Here is a pic of a working Arduino based Selfbondage device:

Firtst, it is not the "original" arduino, but an arduino compatible clone, "Romeo", with some nice extra hardware: It can directly control two motors! (Or, a motor and an electromagnet, as seen in this setup). This extended arduino can be puchased at ebay, for example:

As you see, the wiring needed is minimal, you could likely do without any soldering at all. It is just connecting the wires unto the right screw contact, plug a common DC adapter and you are done.

The devices connected are:
-A home made vib, using a highly efficient motor that does not overheat when revved up. I can post more on this if interesting...

An electromagnet, salvaged from a broken washing machine, from its dirty water evacuating pump. All washing machines I seen open contained similar pump, so it must be quite common design, easily obtainable...
The pump looks something like this:

You simply discard the plastic part and keep the iron magnet with coil. The coil is rated at 220V AC, however it will keep quite a weight at 5V DC aeady if an iron object (keyring, scissors) is placed crossing the two iron tips of the magnet.
Warning: The iron keyring or scissors can get magnetized and will hold a bit even if the electromagnet is powered down! Weight the keyset so it is barely holding on when powered up, so will reliably fall off when powered down.

This setup was used in real SB scenes and performed great πŸ˜‡

Hmmm I always wanted one with a puzzle or game you had to play to get free, win you get released, loose and you get a shock.
So maybe a small EL inverter (used in old 2x16 LCD displays) powered with just enough to make it work (1 - 2 volts??). Add a beeper for the pre shock warning/torment. Note Don't shock any part that’s restrained you'll end up with marks from the restraints. Area's like Butt muscles seem good candidates for punishment shocks.

The motor control output is quite powerful and "reversible" - you can send the current in both polarities. Connecting this to an audio transformer and sending an alternating current to it will produce a nice zap...

Also, the zap could be likely nicely regulated controlling the pulse width and frequency... Something that could be played with. There is a blog with mp3 tracks designed for this, connecting an audio output transformer to a small amplifier speaker output. There is also an instructive video how to connect the transformer to electrodes and an amplifier. However, you could surely feed the transformer stright from the arduino motor output...
