"Alternate personality" (like bambi) and "proper guard rails" are a bit of an oxymoron, depends on the listener and how receptive (or susceptible to DID) they are. Some people go deep down that rabbit hole quickly, others do not at all. That method gives you a seperate entity (in your head) you can give the responsibillity of your actions to or "blame".
