I hope no one minds the terrible necropost, but I whipped up a quick prototype on the 3dprinter. probably took me around 8 hours including print and design. you can find pictures, a movie demonstrating the mechanism and 3d-models here: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:36438
some things to note:
the dovetails tend to stick, I need to up the clearance a bit there.
the slanty cube that locks everything together can pop up a bit, keeping the lock from closing.
I made the eyelets rather feeble on purpose, should the lock fail it shouldn't be a problem to just rip the eyelets to pieces.
A woodworker could probably make this using a router and a bandsaw. doing that would probably result in a way smoother mechanism than what I have.

And I was about to ask what would you do if you had a 3D printer!
there is so much you can make with a 3d printer, it's insane. only problem is that the plastic might not be food safe, so no printing dildos. you could potentially print a mold and cast your dildo from silicone though.
