Not sure if I'm in for an uninstall or not.
Approximately 500 "friends" and I've been using RS for a year or so successfully. I took a short hiatus for a few months and now my activity feed is empty, no friends are online for the past few days. Files are all still visible but no chance to transfer them.
After attempting to add a new cert it's telling me DHT is off RS can't find your friends. Related? It recommends settings->server->public DHT and discovery. Although I can't even find that in preferences.

No, this is fine.

Is your profile/cert a Tor or a ClearNet one? If ClearNet, then it might explain why you do not see any active peers.
Also, you need to constantly add new peers, as the old ones might stop running RS. And you definitely need to find bery reliable peers who are active 24x7x365, like @bzorl.

Bzorl, mosswart, kksissy are all still appearing, including their files, although attempting to DL it just stalls in waiting/queued for the last few weeks. No upload or download speeds.
PS, huge thanks to the 3 above, they've managed to change mine and partners life for the best.. I need a dedicated computer, than be able to share more.
I'll keep trying. Thanks for the help, I'll chase down some answers and if all else fails, reloading. Just don't want to re add the 150 pages or so. At least I know not to chase the DHT settings.

How many cert have you added?
Did you approve connections from others in the Activity tab?
How many hours did you stay online?

This is crucial. If it's possible, can you leave RS running for at least 24 hours with no interruption? The first 2-3 days are the most important, when you connect to others, download and cache all the metadata, etc.

Do you have any active peers? Bottom left corner? Something like 12/800? 0/140?

Do you see the "green light" in Preferences -> Network?

Is there a "Green onion" on the right of it? If you point your mouse on it, it should say "Tor: Tor is OK".

Preferences -> Network -> Hidden Service Configuration -> Outgoing Manual Tor/I2P
On the right side there should be a green light "Tor outgoing Okay"

OK, that would explain why RS does not work for you.

RetroShare comes with its own Tor program, which might conflict with the Tor program coming from the Tor browser.

As a test, try to shutdown both RS and Tor browser. Start only RS. Check it with a normal (non-TOR) browser.

If everything is configured correctly, and you added good peers available 24x7, all you have to do is wait a bit.
