1. Download RetroShare:

   If you are on Windows, install portable version with Tor included.
   
   
2. Download and start Tor-Browser (if Tor is not included):

3. First steps (creating a profile) - select Hidden aka DarkNet aka Tor profile!!!!

   - If you use tor-browser and completed the first steps, skip to the "Network Configuration" section
   
   - The tor config is here: Preferences -> Network -> Hidder Service Config
   SOCKSPort
   - If you are using Tor browser, most likely the Tor Socks Proxy will be 127.0.0.1 and the port 9150.
   The default Tor port (if Tor is installed separately, not as a part of Tor browser) is 9050 (check SOCKSPort parameter in torrc) . This is when the things might go wrong.
   
   - In any case, "Tor outgoing Okay" should be green
   
   
5. To use RS you need friends. To add friends you add their certificates: Home -> Add friends certificates, or click the link with certs.
   
   
6. To get certificates, check these pages:

   Just add all cert from the page to begin with.
   
   
7. Also, you can check Forums. Subscribe to:
       Retroshare 06 - TOR Key Exchange
       RetroShare Key Exchange
   and similar forums, and make friends:
   - post you cert online (Right Click -> Reply or New thread, then  Right Click -> Paste my certificate link)
   or
   - Right click on the post -> Show author in people tab -> Send invite
   
   
8. People can be added directly:
   - Network -> Keyring
   - Click on "Last used" to sort for the online appearance
   - Right- Click on the users who were recently online
   - Profile details -> Accept connections
   - User will receive a notification and might add you back (or not 😉 )
   
   
9. You need to share something, at least you download directory
   - Files -> My Files -> Configure shared directories -> Add new
   - Set visible name and Access. Click on the icons in the Access column. Make sure that all three icons (per  shared directory) are shown. At least two left icons (directory can be searched, files can be accessed).
   
      
   
   - Apply and Close
   
   

Quick check.

Network -> Network Graph -> Friendship level: 1 and 2? What graph do you see?

   

Can you search for files in Files -> Search?

Can you subscribe to forums?

And then most anoying step, you should add as many as possible certificates from that thread, copy certificate, press Add friends certificate

Sometimes it sad that you must turn on Discover mod, I just ignore that.


P.S. you should not only add others certs but wait for someone to add your cert and vice versa

Many, but never enough 😁 Interesting thing. Buggy, but it works. And you can talk to the developers.

NO-OP cert. YOu should be able to connect to it without posting your own cert.

If you are on UNIX, you should be promoted for the app to start
Under Win7 it works only if RS is started with administrator privileges
Or: create a private chat and does not include anybody. Paste the link into the chat and send it. Click on the appeared link.

why dont you just post that cert as we did?

It's a link to the cert posted in a RS forum. And it's encoded differently. No idea how to extract the cert out of it.

o- You have to subscribe to them
o- You have to set a reasonable sync/save time (at least 6 months)
o- You must have friends, whose friends are subscribed to the forums.
o- You, your friends and friends of your friends must be simultaneously online to download the related info.

In short: you must have good friends 😉

BTW, I do not see you in the People tab. Can you see anybody at all?
