Wait .I've seen this score. she can sing it and doesn't use a score !!! That means this soprano is a genius who can also memorize a terrifically , famously difficult to read score.. I've seen her in this with a conductor but to be able to do both is supersupersuper human .Mitsuko Uchida conducts and plays piano and Barenboim and Previna and many instrumentalists do this but nne dares conduct even a 19th century concerto score (maybe Zukerman ) completely alone.Cues are so difficult and I think this orchestra is pretty fantastic if they cant also be expected to be able to also do a lot of the work themselves. Imagine counting 5/8 then 7/4 then countless other time meters in the score.Intense concentration . This is some of the most exciting , inventive , eventful ,emotional and intellectual music around ! Kudos to all here

We're doing this a couple weeks at the Baltimore Symphony, and we were thinking: how are we going to count the rests, come in at the right times, and nail the vocalizations and instrumental effects? Then we watch this amazing soprano sing AND conduct the whole thing from memory and we're like...Um, OK then.
