I found this video (just finished watching/listening), which would explain it. They are incredible...

I misclicked a video on youtube and accidentally started this one:

Jojo Mayer Nerve - Live at A38 Ship 2018

Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SIahbUYxdfE

It's not the music style I listen to, rather I do not listen to this style at all. But the first several seconds of hearing/seeing the drummer immediately caught my attention.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jojo_Mayer

"Jojo Mayer is known for bringing together jazz, drum and bass, jungle, and other influences. He is also famous for his ability to play the rhythms of programmed jungle drum 'n' bass music on acoustic drums, terming this technique "reverse engineering", a phrase borrowed from computing. He executes this approach using various methods such as the heel-toe bass drum technique, the Moeller stroke, the Valving technique, and the "pull-out" or "push-pull" accent which takes the beat on the rebound. Using these techniques, he can play beats at astonishing speeds."

Very interesting. Jojo is amazing.

This group has been around for a few years but I've only just discovered them listening to pandora while at work.  They have a very unique sound, I think.

This song has some strange lyrics but I love her voice contrasted by the beat and bassline.

Since we mentioned Baarbara Hannigan in this thread https://www.likera.com/forum/mybb/Thread...5#pid41265 here's

Barbara HANNIGAN interprète Gershwin

Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KXNKQhFUhiE

Quote:To the few people who have commented negatively here on her conducting technique: 1) she is an acclaimed and sought-after conductor (she just conducted the Orchestre philharmonique de Radio-France and she will soon be conducting the Juilliard Orchestra in NYC) 2) What exactly is your musical training and how many ensembles have you conducted in your life? 3) Her indication of the various pulses is extremely precise throughout the performance. Just one example, her cue to give the tempo of the upbeat section with her right hand at 4:50 is extremely clear (one downbeat before the first measure) and she does it while smiling and singing to the public.. In conclusion, I am not sure you would have been so dismissive had a tenor been conducting while singing. And, by the way, where have YOU performed and conducted lately?
