It does look like that this could be used for self bondage.
The electromagnetic cuffs would be the key to make this work. However, the ice over key could also work.

Would you consider this a 'good' self bondage? Should it be hard to maneuver or do you put more emphasis on aesthetics even if the bondage is not as tight?

I disagree... granted its a full commit situation with serious issues if it goes wrong.

But to escape form the situation in that video you just need to pull the hoist controller back up by the cable and then press the down button surely??

Ok, controller cable. Pushing buttons when your wrists bounded tightly means, for me that is, inching the cable while your hands go numb, and they will, means you’ll most likely drop the cable or control box.
With that, any wiggling will just make the rope or straps tighter and tighter.
Unless there is someone there to watch you, DON’T DO IT.

Unless there is a timer, which would turn the hoist in the correct direction. Ice or timer based hand/elbow cuffs? Once your arms are free you can get to the knob. Other ideas?

A few years ago, I showed you an article from Bongage Life on suspicion bondage, with a way that you pull off this stunt safely.
If you follow the article, you can check yourself before cuffing your hands behind your back.
As the video shows, once you drop that remote, when he/she fell off that step, everything tighten and he/she dropped the remote.
Also, if you looked at her feet, there is a rod/pole/pipe that he/she is standing on.
Just like Bondage Life showed.
So, I do believe that this video was staged and that there was someone keeping an eye on him/her.

I agree 100% on the staying safe part. As enticing as it could be, going from 0 to a 100 isn't recommended at all, I mean, even escalating it slowly can get sooo dangerous pretty fast. More so while attempting suspension bondage. That would require x10 caution, and some extra eyes to keep you 'safe'.

Having said that, my imagination can't be contained that easily lol, and I would definitely love to be bound Guisi style.
