Is there a tape that is safe to use on latex?
#1

Does anyone know if there's tape that will stick to both latex and a hardwood floor that won't tear latex and could easily be removed from the latex without damaging it? I'm going to guess that something like duct tape probably wouldn't be great for latex? Nor do I have any idea how well various tapes even stick to latex or not.

Why am I asking this?

So, I've done 3 different variations of cheap, homemade vacbeds that I've used in self bondage. I'd really like to try something using actual latex though. And I'd actually like to try something along the lines of my first one ( https://www.likera.com/forum/mybb/Thread...wood-floor ) - but with a latex sheet taped to the floor rather than a plastic garbage bag.

You might ask, why not just build a frame out of PVC pipes if you're going to go to the trouble of getting actual latex sheets? 2 answers to that -

First is to save on money needed to buy PVC pipes and also the tools I'd have to get to cut the pipes to proper length and drill holes in them.

Second is that a simple PVC pipe frame is not the most rigid and also very lightweight, which means I can squirm around and move the frame around a bit as I struggle. I really enjoyed the sensation of being pressed to the floor with very limited movement being possible.

Only time I sticked some electrician tape on latex, it did came out without tearing (But I was worried though). Plus, with the tension, I would suggest using a good bonding professional tape and no shining oil or anything on the latex or it will not stick at all.

But, even if you find a tape which you could remove, you will still leave glue on the latex and that might lead to future problems.

So, my, suggestion would be to “double tape” your sheet :
First, you apply a line of tape on the sides of the frame, going all around and with a little fallback behind. This will stay on your sheet after the scene so a-ply it well.
Ex : if your tape is 5cm wide, you apply 4cm on the upper side and the last cm on the downside.

Then, you can apply the second layer of tape like 2.5cm on the upperside and 2.5 in the floor.

That way, you can hold on the last 1.5cm of the first layer while pulling the second layer and prevent tearing the latex.

Last thing, if you do this, you have to make you air hole first this time!!! Latex is much stronger than trash bag and I very much doubt you can tears it safely while vacuuming. Moreover, you will need to enforce you hole by glueing another sheet or it will easily tear further while under tension.

I think you're confusing me with another person who posted on here recently and said they tore the hole with their teeth as the vacuum brought the plastic down on their face. That wasn't me though, I've always setup a breathing tube ahead of time.

The idea of double taping and having one layer of tape that stays on the sheet of latex sounds plausible though, that could work.

Yep, indeed sorry. I missed the fact you were someone else. At least, better safe than sorry if he follows the idea 😉

Maybe Don't use just 1 layer? You could cover the edges of the latex with wide strips of electrical tape which usually are not that sticky but are airtight and cheap. Then tape the electrical tape covered areas to the floor. If the tape proves too strong and tears off then it will rip of electrical tape rather than latex.

Yeah that's what nosmile was also suggesting. May be the way to go.
