A classification of hypnofiles

Mmmm... Very questionable.... E.g. "gagging" and "gag play" should be one and under bondage. That's just one example. I wonder if DSM-IV has a good perversion classification.

No, dsm is for pathologies, so it's not a good classification. The graphic can be improved, but it's not bad.

Let's see.

DSM-5 describes 8 of the more commonly observed paraphilic disorders:

Voyeuristic disorder.
Exhibitionistic disorder.
Frotteuristic disorder.
Sexual masochism disorder.
Sexual sadism disorder.
Pedophilic disorder.
Fetishistic disorder.
Transvestic disorder.

Quite close.

Do you think so? Those disorders are pathological by definition, most kinks are not. Also, even if the definition of disorders were changed to include healthy kinks, many kinks cannot be classified in those categories.

Any kink is considered pathological if it badly influences the life. E.g. if a pedophile feels/thinks that browsing through loli doujins fully satisfies him - there is no problem. And the other way around, if a panty-wearer feels a deep guilt for wearing panties, but can't stop wearing them, what makes him even more frustrated and unable to live nornally - that's a pathology.

Ok, then DSM only includes the pathological kinks, or the kinks that reach a pathological level. We need to include other categories that exceed the DSM classification, for the kinks that the DSM doesn't include.

Anything can reach that level, that's also what DSM says.

If I understand correctly, in DSM other kinks are "hidden" under, for example:

"Fetishistic disorder" - latex, hair, spandex, fur
"Sexual masochism disorder" - Bondage, self-bondage, submission
"Transvestic disorder" - pantyhose, panties, swimsuits, high heels, crossdressing, autogynephilia
"Sexual sadism disorder" - Dominance

But again, any other classification/hierarchy can be as bad/as good/better/worse than this one. And there might be a reason why kinks are classified like this in DSM.

By definition, a healthy kink is not a disorder, and therefore will not be classified by DSM. This is the reason why DSM is not enough goal proposed in this thread.
Also, we can find many kinks that are not included in any of the DSM categories even if we eliminate the requisite of being a disorder: age gaps, age play, orgies, body fluids, body parts, incest.

Why is transvestism there?

(27 Mar 2020, 22:13 )princesitanatty Wrote: age gaps, age play,
"Gerontophilia has often been taken to denote a "paraphilic" interest in the elderly and in forensic contexts might be fitted into the diagnostic slots of DSM-5 "Other Specified" or "Unspecified Paraphilic Disorder" (APA, 2013, p. 705). "
And pedophilia is aeady there.

(27 Mar 2020, 22:13 )princesitanatty Wrote: incest
If it's consensual and if there is no big age difference, there is no problem and it should not be in DSM. Also, I do not see how it can be a separate hypno category. If there IS age difference - see above. Also, there might other categories be involved - sado/mazo/TV.

"Fetishistic disorder."

(27 Mar 2020, 22:13 )princesitanatty Wrote: orgies
I think it can be called something like poly*** and included in "Other specified paraphilic disorder" od DSM.

I'm not saying that DSM is the ultimate bible of kinky hierarchy, but it works. When it stops working a new edition is issued. So far I can't say I have a clear picture how https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_paraphilias can be made into a tree like graph.

Transvestic disorder, like any disorder, includes the requisite that "it causes distress or impairment" to the individual. Without this requisite, it would not be a disorder, but it would still be a kink. So we should not think that "all kinks are disorders", or that all kinks can be included in the categories of disorders. Even if we invent new disorders, they will keep the requisite of causing distress or impairment.
I think it is possible to make a tree-like graphic. You've aeady proposed some clusters. But I think we should not use the word "disorder" to name those clusters. We might simply name them finding a supracategory that includes the instances: dominance cluster, submission cluster, cross-gender cluster, age-related cluster, and so on.
