These files, like many of the hypnosis files, use binaural beats.
There's an interesting thing I learnt from my years working in pro audio and as an advocate of Robert Monroe, The Monroe Institute, and HemiSync.
Monroe actually invented binaural beats as a way of shifting our brain state.
The interesting part is on how soundwaves work, air is less dense and so sound travels more freely, water is denser and so sound, sounds distorted because we aren't familiar with it, but it's actually a truer frequency delivery, and then it follows that solid objects give less distance but an even more accurate signal.
There's a whole new industry on ear buds that deliver sound through the bones just behind your ear.
HemiSync is famous (even TikTok famous) for their Gateway Tapes, as the CIA used them as an experiment and on declassification of the test and results the files (available on many sites, including the CIA's own site) concluded that they do indeed work...with so many mind altering conclusions from a holographic universe to agents achieving rapid recovery.
However, I have no way of knowing what equipment the CIA used, but I do know for a fact that binaural beats can only change your mental state when listening to them through over-the-ear headphones utilizing neodymium magnets for optimal sound quality, and more importantly, frequency delivery.
Electromagnetism is a force of nature and of our bodies and brain, and much research has also concluded that those specific frequencies have to be delivered a certain way.
Thankfully you can get a set of headphones with neodymium magnets for around $40
