Dame Arlene Phillips is/was casting the West End production of 'The Cher Show'. Apparently ten times more men than women have applied š

"Every drag queen wants to be Cher" š¬

I could write a paper on why that's a gross oversimplification. By which I mean this thread makes it obvious the time, effort and moneyĀ I've put into replicating Cher's most iconic costume but... I don't want to be a drag queen. I have too muchĀ respect for women to consider parodying them. It's... complicated.

Exactly.
'All drag queens want to dress as Cher'Ā (if it were true) wouldn'tĀ equal 'Everyone who wants to dress as Cher is a drag queen'.Ā I'd even argue that many stageĀ male Cher impersonators aren't drag queens, at least in the RuPaul sense. I suspect it comes down to whether you're trying to be as accurate as possible (almost a cosplay)Ā or performing a parody (drag).

OK, I'm repeating some earlier linksĀ but
This is definitely drag parody - the costume's only vaguely accurate and the moves are all wrong - I'm pretty sureĀ CherĀ never did death drops.

Now, the costume and moves are spot-on,Ā this is more impersonation?

Something that appeared on my radar. A professional costume company, established for forty-something years are offering a made-to-measure 'Turn Back Time' costume on their website for £150. Dear God.
