Errrmmm... I do have something to say. But need some time to formulate properly. Mixed feelings as usually.
Just a word of caution. Try to get as much information as possible. And when you are inescapably bound, trust is all what you have.

Make sure someone else knows where you will be and have specific check in times with that person.

Very good point. It even can be an "Internet friend". Or friendS for reliability. No sign of presence at the control time? Call mobile #. No response within X-hours? Call police or a local person then police.
