Okay so i got Retroshare working. Thanks to your instructions. But there is a lot going on. I subscribed to some channels and boards and forums, and then I got the feeling some of these were like pedophile pushers, so I unsubscribed. The activity tab is going like a thousand messages a day? That's a lot. Is there like a general how to tutorial, when you're in there? Like a few pages to read for general behavior?

Where did you find them? 😂 I've stumbled upon 1 or 2 possibly related (and not active) forums, but that's it.

I think, it's a total mount of messages. And the amount of posts you are going to see depends on the:

Right Click on the forum name -> Synchronize posts of last ...

I got it running for about 14 hours now. And it did feel a bit overwhelming because of all the weird messages and activities.
I got some subscription demands on the activity tab from a user or admin named ilovetoddlers and a lot of loli boards and other stuff. I subscribed to a couple of those boards and channels (my thought was subscribe now or accept now and check content later) and when I thought it was not all that kosher I unsubscribed.
I really don't know if it's all pedophile stuff, but it looked very suspicious to me.
Okay maybe I got a bit panicky because of the first impressions.
After restarting it seems to have settled down a lot. There are now only like 2 messages on the activity tab and no pedo-stuff anywhere anymore.

Every so often I keep getting this notification in my inbox saying SSL request

"Missing/Damaged certificate. Not a real RetroShare user."

Ive been on the program a week or two now and never got this message. the only thing I did was relocate the files to a larger storage device using robocopy but idk.

does anyone know how to "restore" a profile?
i had to move retroshare folder to a secondary drive because it was eating up space, but now my profile lost all of its details, the forums i subscribed to and the certs i added

question: I can't properly search files on RS, they only appear for a second and then it says "Friend Directories [Updating]"
is there a fix for that?

For Tor on Windows you can use the Tor Browser (Firefox with built-in Tor): https://www.torproject.org/download That built-in Tor can be used for RetroShare as well.

How do you use the Tor built into Tor Browser for RetroShare . I don't understand what you mean, can you expand on that?
