~90 of them connected during the last 30 days (~15 of them are not sharing anything),
including ~80 who connected during the last 14 days,
including ~60 who connected during the last 7 days.

Fact: people who didn't connect during the last 14 days will most likely never connect again.
(Stats are very approximate because I have also added a few people from other places.)

No, those people are only a small minority. It's not an opinion or a guess, that's what I'm seeing on my Retroshare according to the connection dates. There are only a few people in the range 15-30 days. And I would say ~95% of people who didn't connect for 30 days never connected after 3 months either. I can see it, because I tag them differently.

Of course there are some exceptions, that's why I said "most likely". But among those who didn't connect in the last 15 days most of them actually only connected a few times, then moved on to something else. And that is confirmed by the fact that the majority of certificates in the thread are not connecting anymore at all, as I see on Retroshare (not a guess). But the software isn't very reliable as I have seen (1 or 2 times) people 'connected 5 days ago' while they are actively downloading at the same time, so maybe some other people see it differently.

People don't stay connected and they don't mirror full collections, they only take what they need (and especially some S4manth4 😊 ). And when some big sharers sometime leave the community and move on to something else, I see files literally disappearing from the community.

Logically a sharing network can only stay alive and expand if there is an incentive to share, implemented right into the sharing system. That's already the case with torrents for trackers with a sharing ratio (but the problem is it's centralized, and sometimes difficult to get ratio without a seedbox, and doesn't address the fact that only popular torrents stay alive). Some cryptocurrencies have also solved the issue with "Proof of Stake" because they need the nodes to remain online.

For Retroshare there is few hope of a change because original developers have left the project since a long time, and current developers don't want to mess with things and are only changing cosmetic stuffs on the interface.
There is a newer software called Fopnu created by the former developers of WinMX, it's better than Retroshare in every aspects (no need to share certificates, bandwidth is not wasted by search forwarding, the software itself is more stable, it's looks better...), but the main critical problem is exactly the same... there is no incentive to share. And that's why their sharing network is empty, and people don't mirror collections and don't stay connected. I have posted a feature request to address the problem on their support forum but never got an answer.
Now we can only hope that some day, someone will have the skills and the time and the interest to develop a sharing software with sharing incentive as a central priority. 😊
