If we're talking personal experience, there's also the matter of everyone's brains being different! A particular hypnotist can click for you while another one using similar tactics doesn't, and in those cases it's less a matter of what the tist is doing and more how your brain works.
For example, for me, I think EMG is the only "just the person's voice" hypnosis I've had any luck with, I think mostly because I like his voice. Every other hypnotist I generally need binaurals and/or subliminals to really get into; my brain actually responds positively to overstimulation because, as I've said, it's overly analytical and would otherwise pick apart everything that's being said.
I think another reason why these kinds of files have prominent results is that they don't need to be actively listened to. There is no clear induction or awakener, meaning trance is a lot more subtle and lets you autopilot a little instead of just sitting there with your eyes closed. It's also why you could theoretically listen to them while asleep-- passive listening works better than active listening, so it's not as much of a time sink to train on them, so you train on them more, so you get results faster.
