After reading the post by curse154 I remembered by own experiences of wearing tights in public.
I have, on a number of occasions, gone out wearing tights (and occasionally plugged too) underneath my 'normal' clothes (jeans, t-shirt, socks, etc) and although I enjoyed the experience I also felt very self-conscious. It was as if everyone in the shop or street could see I was wearing tights - at least that's what my mind was telling me.
Driving the car was less stressful (though the plug did become a distraction once or twice! 😉 ), however it was only in the comparative privacy of my garden that I really relaxed. On one wonderful sunny day I wore tights under a pair of shorts, without any socks and spent a good 20-30minutes outside in the sun, flashing my nylon clad legs in the clean fresh air. It did feel very nice and I had no worries about neighbours (I even had a quick chat to one over the fence between our gardens).
Having worked with an unashamed cross-dresser (he openly wears dresses and make-up, though he also wears ladies trousers which I simply don't 'get') I guess it is all down to an individual's own confidence - the other people in meetings and offices generally seemed only to be surprised rather than hostile and non-one made a complaint or openly criticised that person.
I still don't have the nerve (or even the desire) to openly wear tights in public
