Let's have a close look at this frequently used argument Russian government use as an excuse to invade UA:
"US can start a war in Vietnam and get away with it, why can't we do the same?"
"US can bomb Yugoslavia and get away with it, why can't we do the same?"
"US can invade Iraq and get away with it, why can't we do the same?"
"US has the death penalty and get away with it, why can't we do the same?"
"US can nuke Hiroshima/Nagasaki and get away with it, why can't we do the same?"
...etc...
While, indeed, US was/is not punished for lots of more than questionable and contradictory actions, and, indeed, this is an example of "whataboutism" manipulation technique, which steers the discussion away to a not quite comparable subject ("false analogy"), such "what-abouts" prove exactly the opposite:
When RU operation in UA is compared with US operation in Iraq, "they" say, that US lied about the chemical weapons in Iraq. What means, "they" confirm, that RU lies about nazism and genocide in UA, and their invasion has nothing to do with the official reasoning.
Also, US never acquired additional territories during those operations, unlike RU with Crimea.
