I have a hard time taking "self-bondage" videos seriously when there's very obviously someone in the room doing the camera work.

Hear what you say though keep in mind that the majority of any "reality" shows are heavily and quite produced, lots of editing and the like. Otherwise, even really good "home made" amateur productions would be pretty ho-hum. There is simply too much to control and still get good results. When watching one of those vids as presented here one needs suspend their own reality factor and simply enjoy the fantasy. That "real" that might be real good would be most difficult to achieve given the abilities of most with the equipment they have and experience, or lack.
As a musician (or more rather a used to be) I always strived for "live" recordings as that is how one or a group would likely be heard and seen live. I personally like that "basement" band sound as that is how it sounds when you are sitting on the stairs or perhaps in the audience in a club or lounge. To do the type of vids presented here (which have a bit of tongue in cheek element involved) and are designed with a level of frustrational suspense in mind and not have "help" would be most difficult at best to do.
A darker aspect here: Should one consider the possibilities of what could happen to a party involved in these sessions that went bad, without "help" there could result a corpse which at least for me would be a really big turn off. That's just an extension of my reality from being on the production side. Slick flicks, vids, music, even simple pics oft represent a lot of behind the scene investment that few are aware about.
So, I suggest to sit back and enjoy the thrill even should (now) we know a lot is/was staged.

@Dworkin, that's right. Most (if not all) videos require preparation and or are staged (someone is behind the camera).
Some I think are from real selfbondagers (no camera move) but anyway have certainly required a lot of preparation and rehearsal like these two:

To add my own thoughts on this subject:
I also dislike 'self-bondage' where there is obviously another person involved, but only if it is to do with the actual binding.
We've all seen the type of video I'm thinking about - a slick video where our damsel ties her legs, applies gag, blindfold and handcuffs then suddenly in the next shot she's got her elbows roped together behind her back! No way that happened without a third party stepping in!
But I can accept and appreciate the videos where all the bondage is self-applied but the camera work makes it clear that another person (or more) is involved in the filming. The only grumble I sometime shave is that the bondage is un-realistic for a self-bondage session - i.e. there is no escape or way to get free, which does annoy me (I'll exclude all the 'self-bondage gone wrong' type movies from this as they are at least working to a plot!).
I'm afraid few of us have the video editing skills of people like @Anne (who we know produces some stunning true life self-bondage videos) and so the most likely outcomes are single angle, continuous run, 'warts and all' productions (such as my own modest efforts).
Having said that I still find the last type of video offering the most compelling to watch - something about knowing they are real (or at least feel more real) adds a thrill to the scene that is missing in even the most polished and erotic 'produced' videos seen here. Another joy of these types is that you'll often pick up a technique or two, such as that lovely girl using books (also very clever techniques with the elbow bondage).
All this reminds me that I still haven't got around to posting my own latest sessions or attempting to edit a video or two to make them suitable for viewing on this forum... time to slave away on the laptop for a day or four!
