Scrolling through Pinterest I started noticing some AI pictures mixed with real (?) content, and that got me wondering, how can I identify AI more quickly? There is some very convincing material out there and that makes me question if I'm slowly being programmed to like AI models because the algorithm wants me to stay scrolling.
What is your checklist for spotting AI content?
e.g. Could you tell which of these pictures used AI? Are they abusing AI, or enhancing the picture through AI?
(This is not a test I really don't know and need help lol)

You're right these are getting harder to figure out. I would guess 3,4&7 are AI. 2 looks too good to not be AI but I don't see any tells.

4 Definitely. Though they all look as though they have been digitally enhanced. The best way I can describe is that AI images usually look like they have had too much airbrushing and look "soft", plus the usual; 6 fingers, impossible shadows etc.

1. I don’t think so, something is wrong with the ear region but all the hardware is extremely well put together. Suspect maybe a bit of blur gone wrong or a compression issue blending the hair and the ear
2. Probably AI, really good but something is extremely wrong with the arm and the clothes seem to disappear where the pantyhose appears which is not how clothes usually work. Something also looks very wrong with how the waist connects to the chest, I think the waist is like 75% the appropriate size for the chest and stuff above it.
3. The legs look too long but the shadow from the folder seems to me to be too well done to be made by AI, suspect camera trickery or photoshop. The thighs are supposed to be the same length as the lower legs but in this one the lower legs look to be twice as long as the thighs
4. AI, the shoe is messed up and the furniture in the background looks really crooked.
5. Not sure, the arm looks really wrong but I’m struggling to pin down what specifically I think is wrong, I don’t think it’s attached to the body at the right place and something about the elbow irks me, I think I’m someone whose arm looks that skinny the elbow joint is supposed to visually look larger whereas here it looks like the joint is smaller.
6. Blatantly AI, the floor is fucked up and the shoes are not put together correctly, the texturing on that cabinet is also a disaster
7. Blatantly AI, the seam line on the clothes is messed up, the pelvic anatomy is wrong, the cuffs on the wrists looks weird, the shadow is incorrect and the arms are weird.
Upon further inspection
2. Definitely AI, all the parts individually look disturbingly correct but it looks like a bunch of different people stitched together and blended at the seams. The neck is confused, the chest and pelvis looks right but the space between them is wrong, the legs look funny but I am not sure why, the knee joint looks most suspect. The background is also weirdly fried out while the foreground correctly transitions color. Not sure why.
3. Idk I’ve spotted more flaws like the casters of the chairs being weird and the floor looks smudged in a digital way but it’s hard to pin down any specific dealbreaker aside from the unnaturally long legs.
5. Probably AI? Something is wrong with the chest and waist area and the arm is strange, I feel like the legs of the person and their upper body just doesn’t join together right. Also where is the left arm?
After a minor discussion with a friend (hard to describe relationship) I agree with his points and have to say some of these are overtuned and might not actually be AI (2&5) or might only be partially AI (6). I’m not sure though which is frankly the worst part, it is scary how good these AI generated photos are and how difficult it is to find evidence of AI generation with careful visual scrutiny. Reverse image searching and noise analysis likely will be able to make more accurate determinations but no one can do that for every photo you see on the internet.

A lot of these I'd blame really bad photoshop jobs (6 and 7) or photo filters (1, maybe 3) before saying the whole thing is AI. 5 in particular I think is just a really amateurly posed and taken photo with no touch-ups.

Had another look just now.
In 4, the right most chair is missing a wheel, the left most one seems to have crossed (wrong) spokes. The right most drawer box would be protruding into the right chair. More subtly the depth of the left most chair is different above and below the table, as well as the long foot on the other desk at the back on the left being longer than the depth of the table.
I don't think 7 is AI per-se. Just a bad Photoshop job. i.e. shadow of left hand.

4 is without a doubt AI, the others I don't think so, just (bad) photoshop.

Though irrelevant for my job, we all have to take AI recognition security tests every year, and every year I get worse at choosing them correctly, so I'm probably wrong 😉 . I'm a bit better with AI generated text, but also less and less so every year.
All of them look well enhanced/touched up in one way or another:
- 1, difficult, possibly "real", if so with quite a bit of photoshop touch up. That lighting does not help with figuring out shadows.
- 2, looks at the least very touched up, her face does not look "real", if it is, then with quite a bit of photoshop work or very heavy makeup artistry. The right thigh does not quite match the left.
- 3, The calf/thigh length mismatch mentioned above could be due to the bent leg angle & the lens chosen (wider angle) or "stretched" with photoshop. The middle finger on her right hand looks off, but might be real.
- 4 & 6, neither of the women's faces look like they belong to the bodies - the face angles are also off, but that does not have to have been done via "AI". Especially 6 looks like something "FaceApp" would do. The lighting and shadows are strange in 6 - but that could be over enthusiastic photoshopping. The fingers on 4 are rather unusually long as Like Ra mentioned and also looks more like someone AI would cook up. 4 screams AI imho....
- 5, the toes are certainly not right unless she has a serious condition, the lighting & shadows are disconcerting, the woman looks superimposed onto a new background if it was once a photo.
- 7, Rapunzel, Rapunzel, oh let down thy hair! Is off in countless anatomical ways (not to mention the fantastical hair length & what the heck is that funnel like protrusion between her crotch & navel? I have seen that on many Ali & Co. swimsuit/leotard listings (mostly XKNY) recently... AI may need some help with the birds & the bees part of human anatomy, no deposit funnels or possibly kangaroo pouches required). Looks more like a display window manikin to me, I would have said AI on any test.... but then again, I question my own track record.
PS: Checked some Ali listings for XKNY... they seem to have some kind of partial swimsuit manikin with a funnel (probably a spacer flap if it is real), which they insert various CGI or AI generated women into. They have some real photos too, but the main listing uses these:
