1°) Go and put the keys to your handcuffs + a padlock away from your house (at the bottom of the garden for example / in your garage which must be left open) This can be done at night.
2°) Loosely wrap a chain around your neck + a padlock
3°) Tie your legs together so that you have to walk on your knees.
4°) Put the handcuffs through the chain around your neck and close.
RESULTS
The chain around your neck will NOT tighten, you cannot strangle yourself. It is not tight + your hands are touching the chain.
You will only be able to walk on your elbows and knees to get the keys and free yourself.
ALTERNATIVE ++
You can also lock yourself for a few hours at the place of departure with a chain + 2 padlocks, then put the keys in an ice-timer / electronic safe.
