"Mermaiding" is more popular than I thought:

Quote:To put it on correctly, LOTS of baby power is needed, and takes close to 15 minutes.

It weighs close to 40lbs outside the water, but is weightless in the water.

I had it painted "new penny" copper, with silver between the scales, which really helps them "pop".

Quote:This is the actual tail that was used in the Disney film, "The Thirteenth Year". It was worn by the mother, and is the tail you see throughout the entire beginning and throughout the rest of the film.

It was being sold through an eBay auction, by the original creator himself, Don Pennington.

Tail is in pretty good condition for being over 10 years old, and being used in a film. (Film props usually get beat up pretty badly) It does have some "wear-n-tear", but is actually being "fully" restored to its original film quality.

This is the only time this tail will ever be used. I plan on showcasing it to prevent any damage to it.

Wow I didn't know mermaids was so popular, but I remember when I was a kid I saw a costume of a siren in a store, it was for girls only but, when I saw the costume, I want it for me, so bad I couldn't have it 😟

Getting out of water is not that easy when your legs are bound with a tail and you are encased in slippery latex:

What a great channel! I'd never have found it! The rubber leotard alone is great but combined with the constrictive tail the complete outfit is awesome. I love the sounds of pulling the tail on too.
Looking at those clips again I noticed something very interesting, the tail has a semi-rigid tube attached with a floppy white white structure at the end.

Even more interestingly, in this shot there seems to be a much thinner tube to the right of it: (Edit: I now think it might just be a stalk of grass)

By this stage it's almost completely inside the tail, only the white end shows:

Finally there's this intriguing shot. I wonder if one of our Russian speaking members could investigate further?

EDITED: So that the thread is easier to follow now that it's been moved 😉

Moved the posts to the correct thread. At first I thought that the suit was made out of lycra, not latex.

It's not Russian, it's Czech 😉

RE: Latex mermaids - Culmor - 23 Nov 2011

Russian, Czech, it's all Greek to me... 😉

Perhaps one of our Czech speaking members could investigate then...also I think some of the 'Merboy' tails are lycra (not rubber) so I suppose the thread belongs on both boards.
