From wiki: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autonomous_sensory_meridian_response

Autonomous sensory meridian response (ASMR) is an experience characterised by a static-like or tingling sensation on the skin that typically begins on the scalp and moves down the back of the neck and upper spine. It has been compared with auditory-tactile synesthesia. ASMR signifies the subjective experience of "low-grade euphoria" characterised by "a combination of positive feelings and a distinct static-like tingling sensation on the skin". It is most commonly triggered by specific acoustic, visual and digital media stimuli, and less commonly by intentional attentional control.

In simple words, you listen to something or watch something, enjoy, relax and fall asleep 😁

AS an example, here's a video I'm currently listening to (using earphones is highly recommended):

"Hi everyone, this ASMR video has different types of binaural sounds that are some of my favorites to trigger ASMR! I occasionally whisper here and there but most of the time you can just enjoy the sounds of 3 types of brushes for mic brushing, 2 types of tea bags, spraying water, tissue paper crinkles, and latex gloves. Timestamps below!"

Note, that the sound of chlorinated latex is also an ASMR trigger 😉

😁

OK, here it is. Kids make $1000 a day on making ASMR videos, like 15min chewing on honeycombs. There were paedophily concerns, some videos were banned, but now all youtube channels are back, and comments are "officially" under parent's supervision.

But the article is worth reading for many reasons.

Kids, moral and society aside:

Quote:In June 2018, Poerio conducted a study where she monitored the physiological responses around ASMR. Videos designed to trigger ASMR were played to 50 people who get ASMR and a control group of 50 non-ASMR participants.

“We found that people who experience ASMR showed significant reductions in their heart rates compared to non-ASMR participants,” Poerio explains, “These reductions are comparable to other stress-reduction techniques such as mindfulness and music therapy.” Poerio says this finding is crucial because reduced heart rates prove people who enjoy ASMR are not sexually aroused.

“I compare it to getting the world’s best massage, but no one has to be touching you because you can feel it by watching ASMR videos,” says Craig Richard, a professor of biopharmaceutical sciences at Shenandoah University, and the founder of ASMR University, a website dedicated to ASMR news and research.

Richard, who is also the author of Brain Tingles: The Secret to Triggering Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response for Improved Sleep, Stress Relief, and Head-to-Toe Euphoria, estimates around 20 per cent of the population experience strong ASMR.

1000$ a day. Should have been born a female tbh.

Does anyone on this forum experience ASMR because I sure don't, I don't think.  I've tried listening to those videos and I have some really awesome gaming headphones, but I get nothing "tingly" at all.  Maybe I'm missing something?

The only thing it does for me is making me sleepier. So I might listen to some before bed.
