It is. It's local to me and it's made in the Wychwood, a remnant of the Old Forest that was here before people were. There's not much of it left but walking in it's a bit like taking a hike through Fangorn. It's one of my favourite places
I've only ever found two better forests (both in Wales), dwarf temperate cloud forests, every rock covered in moss, ever tree dripping with lichen, always misty (unless it's raining). Spooky but incredibly beautiful. Primeval even. You almost don't want to walk as you feel every step you take is helping destroy your reason for being there. And the silence is deafening.
I understand parts of south-western Ireland and Cornwall are similar. I need to explore more.

I visited the Black Forest many years ago after a trip to Munich Oktoberfest. A beautiful place.
More 'majestic' but not as 'primeval' as the west Welsh hill-forests though. You really feel as though you're the first human to have ever set foot there in some parts. As I wrote, even climbing to those places inspired in me a feeling of guilt, that humans weren't meant to be there. I'm not a religious man but at one point I just realized the Wild Wood was here long before us and will be here long after we're gone. It's just the way of things.

No-no-no, it's not the Black Forest (though, there are several Black Forests in Germany). You can't even drive there. It's located in the Berchtesgaden National Park. First you have to get to the far end of KΓΆnigsee by an electric boat, then walk to Obersee.
Actually, the forest around Obersee does not look medieval or evil at all. Rather fairy-tailish. But definitely primeval.
