Photo equipment, photo tricks, setups, etc. - Like Ra - 06 Oct 2014 Let's keep all photo technique/equipment materials in one place. RE: Photo equipment, photo tricks, setups, etc. - Like Ra - 06 Oct 2014 My Canon 5D is too old (~8 years?), my current Canon PowerShot G15 (from 2 years ago) I use for candid photos and selfies is quite good, but I want something faster, more ISO, better image quality, less noise, tilted screen and yet pocketable. After quite a research (off- and on-line) I finally decided to go the just introduced Canon PowerShot G7X. It's not available (yet) in usual shops, but you can get it in Hong Kong eBay ones. This is the cheapest so far: Β£349.89/β¬445/$560 - Canon PowerShot G7 X I thought about: Canon G1X Mark II, Sony RX100 Mark III, even Sony Alpha 5100 and 6000, Panasonic LX7, LX100. But price/(quality+handling) wise G7 X looks more appealing. Pre-formed searches for convenience (I'm still trying to decide between several HK eBay shops): Search eBay UK: Canon PowerShot G7X eBay: Canon PowerShot G7X Search eBay DE: Canon PowerShot G7X I need the camera before my next short vacation. So, wish me luck with it - need to order today (or wait for XXX months/years until something absolutely perfect yet cheap appears on the market). RE: Photo equipment, photo tricks, setups, etc. - Like Ra - 06 Oct 2014 Another idea behind G7X is the possibility to control it from a smartphone. E.g. for candids π RE: Photo equipment, photo tricks, setups, etc. - Like Ra - 06 Oct 2014 As for a big full-frame SLR, Canon 6D is still the best, though it was introduced 2 years ago. I was waiting for the price drop, provided I did not have any interesting vacation destinations in a couple of years and I still have 5D. But the price is quite stable. I lost two auctions on eBay, and now I think if I buy the G7X I can wait for the 6D replacement (next year?, I'd like to have a better focusing system, e.g. just like in 7D mark II and more frames per second) or look for bargains on eBay. I do not mind to buy a used one for half the price: eBay: Canon EOS 6D body Search eBay UK: Canon EOS 6D body Search eBay DE: Canon EOS 6D body RE: Photo equipment, photo tricks, setups, etc. - Like Ra - 07 Oct 2014 (06 Oct 2014, 15:47 )Like Ra Wrote: This is the cheapest so far: Β£349.89/β¬445/$560 - Canon PowerShot G7 XJust bought it! π RE: Photo equipment, photo tricks, setups, etc. - madjack - 07 Oct 2014 (07 Oct 2014, 03:08 )Like Ra Wrote:(06 Oct 2014, 15:47 )Like Ra Wrote: This is the cheapest so far: Β£349.89/β¬445/$560 - Canon PowerShot G7 XJust bought it! π Nice and shiny π Does this mean you'll be posting some photos soon? π MJ RE: Photo equipment, photo tricks, setups, etc. - Like Ra - 14 Oct 2014 The camera arrived yesterday! It is small, fast and fun to use. I like the ability to refocus to any point of the frame with a touch of a finger and the night mode (it quickly makes 6 shots at 3200 ISO and combines them together to reduce the noise). And 20MP can give you some flexibility later. The image quality is fine, but definitely worse than from a full-frame or medium format camera with a Zeiss prime lens π Speaking of Zeiss... I'm thinking about Zeiss 50/1.4 for my Canon EOS. Possibly for my next birthday? π Search eBay DE: Zeiss Canon RE: Photo equipment, photo tricks, setups, etc. - Anne - 30 Jun 2017 (06 Oct 2014, 15:55 )LikeΒ Ra Wrote: Another idea behind G7X is the possibility to control it from a smartphone. E.g. for candids π I have one of the cheapest Nikon point-and-clicks that I can control from my phone. It works but the Nikon app is really crappy. RE: Photo equipment, photo tricks, setups, etc. - Like Ra - 30 Jun 2017 Same about Canon - I never managed to reliably pair them or use for anything... RE: Photo equipment, photo tricks, setups, etc. - PHcyclist - 02 Jul 2017 EOS M6 works fine with - or thanks to -Β NFC. Just hold the phone to the cam and enjoy... 5D4 the same way. |
