Just in case you are lost in the design - the silicon pieces are supposed to be tightly wedged between the back teeth, preventing closing the mouth. MUCH better and safer, than O-rings!

I recently received such a gag. Looking at the pictures, I think it's the same model.

It's effective at keeping my mouth open. However, the wearer can easily remove it. The rubber wedges are not tall enough to fully wedge open my jaws, even when at the back of mouth. So if I stop biting down and open my mouth just a bit, I can easily push the rubber wedges out with my tongue.

It may work better for someone with a smaller mouth and/or range of jaw motion.

In other words, it's just a matter of the proper sizing 😉

Looks scary! (Not that you have to fully inflate it! 😁 )

I have this, and it's interesting. Have some photos.

At rest, uninflated.
Took me a surprising amount of time to find something in my room that was common and normal size enough to compare

5 pumps in. The front piece has become as fully inflated as it will be until about 15 pumps in.

20 pumps in. I'm afraid to meet the person that could contain this. It didn't sound like it was about to give or anything at this point. I feel like I could get 30 or 40 pumps in before this thing starts to crack.

So it has the same problem as most butterfly gags in that it will try to pop out any chance it gets. It will need to be held in with a ring or some other harness with a hole in it.

I was hopeful that the front would inflate enough to actually keep it inside a mouth, but there's very little inflation going on there, thus pops out without anything holding it in.

I can confirm it as leak proof. It's a bit scary that the means of deflating the gag can be removed so easily. And by scary I mean exciting. 😁

@Kit-Katt I was actually just about to purchase one of these...can you elaborate on the popping out? I'm not familiar with issues with butterfly gags, I thought the principle was that once it was fully inflated there would be no way for the wearer to remove it (i.e. it expands to a point where removing it would require a dislocated jaw)?

It's a common problem of all(?) inflatable toys - they tend "to leak out" of the tight holes - the air moves out of the "inside (squeezed) parts" of the whole chamber to the "outside (not squeezed) parts".

This is not actually what I meant.

I was referring to the fact that it manages to slip out of your mouth before being inflated enough to stay inside. It gets bigger than your mouth depth before it's wider than your cheeks can stretch.

If there were butterfly gag that was more shaped like a mouth guard, then it might actually stay inside. But this default design will slip past your cheeks without something further holding it in.
