Yep, proving discrimination can be hard in a lot of cases. I had to go "drab" a couple of times to secure an apartment and use my dead name. Otherwise I'd be homeless again.

I am so sorry that has happened to you. I have a friend in Montréal (also trans) who has been telling me about the shift that has been happening up there. The last time I saw her in Vermont at a conference right before the pandemic we were talking about how US Politics tends to creep up to Canada over time. For people the are visibly trans the verbal attacks have definitely been increasing the last two years.

Thankfully I have been lucky having cis passing privilege, but strangely non-passing trans women I know have had more attacks in liberal cities than rural conservative area.

There's also another fact about being transsexual. Many (if not most) either lose a job, have to work a job that pays less, work under the table, or move to being a sex worker of some sort. Mostly to make ends meet, let alone save up for surgery (in countries where it is not covered).

In my country they used to force "sex change surgery" on all trans females who came out. Sometimes trans girls weren't even informed so when they freaked out & complained about it they got publicly humiliated so some untransitioned or haven't even dared to come out now.  reason Austria is lacking my generations trans fems.

& since it was very sickly frowned upon to the point to force a brutal sex change even if we dint want it just to be able to transition & be legally recognized made surgeons very rare as sort of halfway between plastic surgeon & fringe side of cutting humans up to see if they can still get orgasms

I have heard of forced sterilization before a legal recognition of the sex they transition too, but not to that extreme. The result of GCS/SRS surgery is sterilization, but it is not a requirement to have bottom surgery in most US states for legal sex change, and US Federal (for passports) it is not required. The US is weird on many laws that vary state to state.

Fortunately I had a very good surgeon. I had a pelvic exam by my PCP Doctor who wanted to see the results of my surgery and she was very impressed. She said there was no way to tell the difference between my neo-vagina and a natal vagina until she went looking for a cervix.
