I am 72, and I have similar experiences in the sense that my self bondage is becoming less and less complicated and more in the mind. I still have most of my gear, but some that I realised I will never use again I got rid of, because it took too much space.
I blame the stress induced by retirement and Covid. The Covid pandemia destroyed many peoples social life inducing very high stress levels. This again causes behaviour changes because it saps your mental energy. It is not clear to what extend this can be reversed. Trying to get professional help has waiting lists of potentially more than half a year, because so many people are affected.
Somehow one has to break out of this stress by doing something you like and can concentrate on 100%Ā and that is far away from your normal environment and its distractions. I managed to do this once 15 years ago, and at the moment I am looking for another opportunity to do so.
