Surely you heard about Marquis de Sade, the guy that gave name to the "Sadism" part of the SM acronym. but did you hear about etymology of the "Masochism" part?

Well, it seems this part was also "invented" by a 19th century noble guy by name Leopold von Sacher-Masoch.

"On 9 December 1869, Sacher-Masoch and his mistress Baroness Fanny Pistor signed a contract making him her slave for a period of six months, with the stipulation that the Baroness wear furs as often as possible, especially when she was in a cruel mood."

He later wrote a novel about this experience, named "Venus in Furs". Some other guy, reading the novel, thought it describes mind state and fetishisms of many, and it his honor described it as "Masochism"

Cheers, 😇
Yeah, I tried to read Leopold's novels and stories about 25 years ago. Too boring 😁
Yes, I guess the humanity invented a few more things in this field. But just because we have better planes then the brothers Wright built, it does not reduce their importance in the history 😇
