In theory these kinds of devices (the strap thing and the bar with a c at the end) are really good for non violent/damaging ways of containing people, however they really fall short at their intended purpose and only really work if you aeady hold a significant advantage over your opponent.

So the C bar thing is supposed to be like an easy way to push or pin someone hostile without causing injury which is simple enough in concept, the only issue is that most designs give the user a very weak grip and lend a huge handlebar to the opponent. If your opponent is even somewhat matched in strength or mass they can just grab the C and either twist it out of your grip or just pull it, when I was messing around with those a bit the nastiest was just grabbing the bar, side stepping it and yanking it back. This throws the person holding it towards you and sends them off balance and if they are still holding the bar leaves them rather defenseless, if they are smart they will drop the bar before getting pulled but then you are just back to square one. Also while the poles are typically fairly light their length and mass still make them incredibly unwieldy tools, you can't really swing them, you more so use them like a weird spear or lance. There are ways of using them effectively in tandem or with an advantage though, using these can force an opponent to let go of their weapon in order to remove your bar, at which point you could draw a baton and close the distance before they can rearm themselves or have a teammate do that. Obviously if you hold a great strength advantage over them it works fine, but pinning grandma is not really a very notable achievement.

I have seen that strap like design before (never tried one) but they seem a bit gimmicky, there is a lot that could go wrong with the process and I have my doubts on the strength of that strap, the guy in the video was barely moving, had his arms pinned to his sides aeady and didn't seem to struggle afterwards. With the shoulders a bit more lifted or the arms any further out those straps would not have worked. Most of his efforts appeared to be falling without letting go of the knife or accidentally hurting himself, making his roll really unrealistic, the lady also failed to stick the landing with that bar

In practice the biggest issue is that it's just terrible if someone sees you coming and it is a bad choice if they don't. If they don't see you coming up behind them a kick to the back of the knees or a body slam will send them to the floor far more reliably. If they see you coming the first thing everyone thinks of is to extend their hands out front and face you, that extension foils the strap and quick thinkers can push the bar to the side for an easy opening.

The strap is an interesting concept though, I don't know the specifics but it looks like a snap bracelet or tape measure metal made larger. In theory you could make a huge sheet of it or lay many parallel strips of them to make a snapping trap.

Almost forgivable, especially if I take of my glasses and let the detail blur a little  😁

After all, it is Velma......  💓
