I think I would like to challenge and comment on that statement.
We happy forum folk has our fetishes and they are of the sexual kind, at least that's my conclusion from reading many, many posts here.
But a fetish is also defined as "
an excessive and irrational devotion or commitment to a particular thing: " - which is how I've always understood it, and how it classically was used. I.e. the native North American totem pole was a fetish object to European western eyes, as were many of the worshiped Asian idols (I don't judge - merely observe).
So, folks today, apparently, are less likely to have a sexual fetish about, say, tights or latex or PVC. But, a simple 5 minute observation of any crowded train or public area would offer strong evidence that they still have fetishes.
What does it seem that (almost) everyone is devoted to, with an irrational commitment?
Their mobile/cell phones! Or, to be more specific, some App or another which is running on their device.
Heads down, eyes fixed on the tiny screen, fingers tip-tapping away.
Unable to restrain themselves from another look, message, game, photo, post, whatever.
Every morning, waking up and reaching for their 'smart' (ha!) device and checking up/in, even before a morning cuppa!
And then staying awake in bed, late into the evening, face bathed in the screen's glare.
If that isn't a fetish then I don't know what is!
Just saying..... 😁

Ps. I've very happy with my fetishes.
Pps. A thought, does my observation mean that anyone not intently focused on a tiny screen in their hand is actually a 'normal' fetishist, preferring to spend their time focusing on tights, latex, rubber, frillies, crossdressing, gas-masks, leather and such? Now there's a very intriguing idea... 😉
